Yes, make sure your floors are level if they aren't they make a self leveling compound. Once this is finished make sure you use a moisture barrier over the concrete and then install the planks.

EDITED: I don't think I would varnish the underside of the wood planks it might interfere with your warranty plus wood also has to breathe thats why you need the moisture barrier.
References :
above links

vapor barrier is nothing more than a layer of thick plastic sheeting to keep water vaopor off the wood.
I would also coat the bottom of the wood flooring with varnish as a back up.
References :
engineered hardwood floors are not meant to float, the are supposed to be glued down
laminate flooring is mean to be a floating floor
in either case you must have some form of vapor barrier between the flooring and your subfloor ( assuming it's concrete )
References :
I used floating laminate in my rental trailer and i loved it. The floating works much better if your floors aren't 100% level. The floating floor will "give", and move a little with the subflooring.
References :
Floating is good for floors that won't get "wet" or have dew on the ground. Basements are examples of floors that can't use floating technique to install hardwood. But the floating method is convenient and not much gluing and is easier to remove if something's wrong.

As for "glue down" method, it's good for places like basements, where it will hold even if there is some water dripping on it. I use the glue don method, because I tried the floating method, and when i spilled something, the flooring would lift off the ground and ruin it. So I recommend glue down method, just to be safe of spills. Good luck!
